Public Relations Intern

Intern Summary:

Kickstand, a global, full-service PR firm, is seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and creative individual for our internship program. This position is great for junior, senior, or graduate students in college with availability of at least 32 hours per week. Kickstand also accepts those who may be later in their career and are considering a career change and/or are seeking to re-enter the workforce to apply.

As an intern, you will work a full-time schedule and gain hands-on experience in an integrated communications firm. You will provide support to our team in their day-to-day program activities including integrated media campaigns, learn from client subject matter experts, and gain the foundational skills and knowledge for a career in public relations.

The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and an entrepreneurial spirit. This is an exciting opportunity with training and support from the entire account team. Some things that matter:

This is a paid intern position based in either Austin, TX or Denver, CO. The position is primarily work-from-home with monthly opportunities for in-person meet ups and training.

Intern I responsibilities include:

  • Client Relations & Account Support:
    • Support on up to three agency accounts, both consumer and B2B
    • Possible participation in client calls and meetings
    • Participation in internal team brainstorms, training sessions, etc.
    • Draft and send agendas and action items for weekly client calls, working with account team to ensure accuracy of updates and details
    • Ensure speed and accuracy across all client correspondence
    • Possible building + vetting of media lists
    • You may have the opportunity to support new business development and learn about the inner workings of a growing PR agency, all while building your professional network.
    • Media relations support, may include:
      • Monitoring the media for breaking news; developing an understanding of the media landscape and applying that knowledge
      • Support in identification of proactive coverage opportunities (ad hoc and ongoing)
      • Assisting in the preparation of briefing materials for secured client interviews
      • Coverage scans
      • General research (podcast research, briefing doc shell, etc)
  • Team Support:
    • Each intern is paired with a buddy to help show them the ins and outs of agency life
    • Interns will also receive training for all the building blocks of public relations skills and be able to participate in agency programs such as Lunch n Learns
    • Work with account leads on administrative tasks for the team
    • Participate in team brainstorms, as well as in training and planning sessions

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of print, broadcast and digital media is a plus but not required
  • Interest in technology and ability to keep abreast of industry news and current affairs
  • Ability to deliver under tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Mature presentation skills
  • Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and stay organized

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Junior or senior undergrad OR graduate student
  • Seasoned professionals considering a career change
  • Those seeking to re-enter the workforce after time off
  • Planned or achieved four-year college degree. No requirements on field of study, but preference is given to those with demonstrated advanced writing requirements.
  • Strong computer skills are required, with the ability to quickly learn new tools.

The pay for the 10-week internship is $6,000.
