Account Executive

Kickstand Communications, a national, full-service PR firm, is looking for an Account Executive (AE) to join its team. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of public relations experience. Agency experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with in-house experience will also be considered. This is also the most common level where those seeking a career change find success. Kickstand has a track record of helping those early or late in other careers switch to PR, typically starting at the AE level. Career changers have included; journalists, broadcast producers, on-air talent, and writers, nurses, teachers, and stay-at-home-moms.

This is a full time position that can be based in TX, CO, or MA. The role is largely remote with limited in-office time in Boston, Austin, or Denver so preference is given to candidates with achievable, occasional access to those cities. U.S. Account Executive responsibilities include:

Client Relations & Account Support

  • Support multiple agency accounts, both consumer and B2B
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients
  • Ensure speed and accuracy across all client correspondence
  • Create client reports, including coverage reports detailing coverage and team activities
  • Attend and actively participate in client meetings
  • Identify, draft, and submit speaker and awards opportunities
  • Regular drafting of short and long-form content, including press releases
  • Extensive media relations, including:
    • Monitoring the media for breaking news; developing an understanding of the media landscape and applying that knowledge
    • Developing relationships with key media contacts
    • Responding to client and inbound media requests
    • Identifying proactive coverage opportunities (ad hoc and ongoing)
    • Securing, preparing briefing materials, and staffing media interviews for client spokespeople

 Team Support

  •   Work with account leads on administrative tasks for the team
  •   Participate in team brainstorms, as well as in training and planning sessions
  •   Manage and develop junior talent, as appropriate
  •   Consistently demonstrate creative problem solving
  •   Help develop and grow a strong agency culture

 Required Knowledge and Skills

  •  Good knowledge of print, broadcast and digital media
  •  Proven ability to keep abreast of technology news and current affairs and relate them to client narrative
  •  Experience producing and maintaining reports
  •  Ability to deliver under tight deadlines
  •  Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Ability to manage time effectively and stay organized
  • Attention to detail
  • Professional and approachable manner
  • Positive, constructive attitude

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree (preferably with a PR, business, or Marketing-related major)
  • 1-3 years PR experience; agency experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with technology companies strongly preferred
  • Some experience with PR databases, such as Muckrack preferred with frequent use of AI tools to support work
  • Experience with Google suite
  • Experience conducting or working with market research not required, but a major plus
